ニール・ヤングが現在進めているさまざまなシリーズの中に、ブートレグとして非常に評価の高いライヴ音源を公式音源として発表するシリーズがある。
〈オフィシャル・ブートレグ・シリーズ(OBS)〉というのがそれで、今回そのシリーズ第2弾が3タイトル、CDとLPレコード、ハイレゾ配信で5月にリリースされた。
LPレコードはさすに人気が高く、現在タワーレコードでは「お取り寄せ中」ながらも発売中なのでここで取り上げる。
ブートレグ公式音源の第2弾として発売になったのは次の3タイトル。
『DOROTHY CHANDLER PAVILION 1971 (OBS 3)』は1971年のソロ・ツアーのUS最終日となる1971年2月1日に、ロサンゼルスのDorothy Chandler Pavilionで開催されたソロ・アコースティック・ライヴ。
『ROYCE HALL 1971 (OBS 4)』は同じく1971年1月30日にUCLAのキャンパスにて行われたソロ・アコースティック・ギグの模様を収録。
そして『CITIZEN KANE JR. BLUES (LIVE AT THE BOTTOM LINE) (OBS 5)』は、1974年5月16日にニューヨークのThe Bottom Lineにて開催されたライヴの模様を収録している。
いずれもニール・ヤングのファンには涙ものの曲が演奏されているが、とくに1971年のライヴを収録した2作品は、ニール・ヤングのキャリアの中でも人気の高い楽曲が演奏されている。
音質もニール・ヤングのアーカイヴの中から発掘されたアナログ・マスターテープをもとに丹念にミックスが施されている。
手に入れられるのであれば、アナログ・レコードで聴きたいアルバムだ。
